💡 Tip of the Week
Write this in ink: “How long can I keep going like this before I burn out?” Put a date on it. Then choose one boundary you’ll honor this week.

Tame the Cash Eating Monster — Start Keeping Cash
Why “more sales” doesn’t solve the problem
I meet owners every week who can sell, they can make the phones ring, and still they live in constant pressure. Payroll is coming, vendors want their money, the card is near its limit, so the plan becomes push for more sales.
It's exhausting, it's draining, it steals evenings with your family, it does not work. If this feels like your story, your business, as it stands today, is a cash-eating monster; it consumes whatever you feed it—big weeks, small weeks, all the same. Until you change how money is consumed, volume only grows the appetite.
Name the monster, then tame it
The problem is not you; it is the system you are using. When cash lands in one big pile, it gets spent on whatever screams the loudest. Busy becomes your identity, urgency becomes your manager, and profit is postponed to “when things calm down.” They never do—not on their own.
The question that changes everything
“How long can things continue as they are before you burn out and you break?”
Read that again. Be specific—pick the month and year. Your current path has an expiration date.
Either the system breaks… or you break the cycle. At some point we must stop doing what we’ve always done—because effort without boundaries becomes self-betrayal. The cost is your sleep, your joy, and the relationships that make the work worth doing.
A better way
Stop feeding the monster and start taming it. Growth before discipline doesn’t work. The only way to truly get ahead—to feel in control, to have peace and the space to do the work you really want to do—is to address consumption first.
Focus on how cash is used, protect real margin on purpose, and make the business operate within what remains. That’s when sales finally start to matter.
Tame consumption first
Constrain spending with intent so cash serves strategy, not noise.
Protect margin on purpose
Make profit a decision, not a leftover. Guard it before you spend.
Make OpEx live on what remains
Let operations adapt to reality. Scarcity sharpens decisions.
I get that this may sound easier said than done. It takes work and support, but it’s absolutely doable—I see it every week. If you’re stuck, reply to this email or grab time here.
What changes when you do this
You’ll feel the shift:
✓
Patterns appear. Timing makes sense. Surprises shrink.
✓
The anxious balance-checking fades. You lead from a calm plan.
✓
Space opens to mentor your team, serve better, and be present at home.
✓
Profit becomes intentional. Your paycheck becomes reliable. The monster gets quiet.
Bottom Line
Growth without boundaries is a treadmill. Tame consumption first, protect margin first—then grow.
That sequence gives you control, calm, and a business that finally serves your life.

Shoppers are adding to cart for the holidays
Over the next year, Roku predicts that 100% of the streaming audience will see ads. For growth marketers in 2026, CTV will remain an important “safe space” as AI creates widespread disruption in the search and social channels. Plus, easier access to self-serve CTV ad buying tools and targeting options will lead to a surge in locally-targeted streaming campaigns.
Read our guide to find out why growth marketers should make sure CTV is part of their 2026 media mix.
